Case Study: Chemical Wastewater's 1000m³/D MBR CIP clean

General Feeback:
Chemical plant had ran MBR skid for 6months, In these days, they found pressure difference was very high and stable at approx. 0.65bar. general running pressure would be 0.2~0.3bar. After CEB, the MBR’s pressure drop could recovery to 0.4bar, however, it would be back to 0.65bar within 1weeks.


After rechecked in MBR skid location:
1.   Active Sludge IssueWaste water samples SV15<30%, which means sludge had been expend, filamentous bacteria sired highly in water. This situation is much easy contaminate MBR membrane. After rechecked in local, SV15<10%, SV30<20%.


2.   MBR membrane pollute issue:
1)   The adhered sludge on membrane is black and yellow brown color, Yellow brown is general healthy sludge, black sludge means membrane contaminate is organic substance. Clean situation: Sludge is very hard to clean, which means sludge had adhered for a long time. It can’t be recoveried by CEB





2)   There are some fiber into the sludge and membrane. It will effect membrane’s aeration , self-clean process and faster pollute time. After checked this substance is from former process Biochemical filler tank.
3.   Operation issue: From location operation flow chart, we found some mistake operation. We set CEB alert value to be 0.3bar. but end user reset alert value to be 0.45bar to reduce CES frequency and reduce chemical cost. It leaded to sediment lots of sludge after reached 0.45bar, which made clean to be very difficult, reduce the performance of CEB clean.

Suggestion:
1.  Recheck sludge on time:
Check SV15, PH , NH3-N, COD values, test MLSS every triple days. Any emergency, deal with it at once.
2.  Add fine screen:
Add 1~2mm fine screen, remove any fiber and particals
3.  Timely CEB:
4~12hrs/backwash, 3~7days/CEB,3~6months/offline CIP or 1~2months/Online CIP.
4.  Inspection backwash performance:
Any emergency, pls check the operation manual, change chemical for different contaminate Or call Membrane Solutions directly.

Technology Guide
CIP Clean
At beginning, we suggestion to clean sludge pc by pc, then immerse NaClO for 30mins with 500ppm. As soon as arrived location, we founded it very hard to operate and pollute environment. We recommend skid clean by high pressure water to remove big sludge, then immerse NaClO in aeration tank directly.
Geenral Backwash:
Every 4~12hrs, Backwash water resource must be better than MBR effluence, front set Y style filter or back set 100um filter for 1~2mins
CEB:
Every 3~7days, CEB water resource must be better than MBR effluence, meanwhile dosing NaClO chemical with 500ppm for 5mins, after that immerse for 10mins, then start aeration. 
Online CIP
Every 1~2months, drain off wastewater and clean MBR tank. Water immerse MBR skids, dosing chemical with 500ppm for 0.5~2hrs, then aeration 10mins, backwash 1min.
Offline CIP
Every 3~6moths, used bridge crane and gantry crane to lift whole MBR frame, clean the sludge, then immerse in a clean tank and add clean frequency.
